I Brazilian Neutron User Meeting (I-RUN)

SCML International participated in the first Brazilian Neutron User Meeting at IPEN in São Paulo, an important initiative bringing together the Brazilian neutron-scattering community and scientists from international neutron facilities. Neutron scattering is central to several areas of SCML research, particularly studies of structure, dynamics and confined fluids in layered and soft materials.

The SCML contribution highlighted how neutron scattering and synchrotron X-ray techniques can be combined to understand finite stacking and loss of long-range order in swelling layered colloids.

Conference participation

ORIGINS 2026

6–10 July 2026 · Paris, France

SCML International participated in ORIGINS 2026, the international meeting of the origins-of-life and astrobiology communities. The meeting brought together researchers from chemistry, physics, planetary science, biology and astrophysics to address the emergence of life and planetary habitability.

Participation is particularly relevant to SCML's developing research activities at the interface between soft matter, mineral surfaces, confined fluids and prebiotic chemistry. Clay minerals and other naturally occurring nanostructured materials provide environments in which confinement, adsorption, interfaces and self-organisation may influence chemical processes relevant to the origins of life.

Conference participation

XRM2026 — 17th International Conference on X-Ray Microscopy

31 August–4 September 2026 · Campinas, Brazil

SCML International participated in XRM2026 at CNPEM and the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), home of the Sirius synchrotron. The conference brings together the international community developing and applying advanced X-ray microscopy and imaging techniques.

For SCML, participation provides direct exposure to emerging characterisation methods capable of resolving structure, morphology and heterogeneity across multiple length scales. Such approaches complement scattering and spectroscopy techniques used in SCML research and are particularly relevant for complex, hierarchical and nanostructured materials.

XXIV B-MRS Meeting / SBPMat 2026

27 September–1 October 2026 · Curitiba, Brazil

SCML International will participate in the XXIV Meeting of the Brazilian Materials Research Society (B-MRS/SBPMat), one of Brazil's major international forums for materials science.

The contribution is part of the symposium Clay Minerals as Strategic Functional Materials for Sustainable Technologies, closely aligned with one of SCML's core research areas. The presentation addresses the unusual mechanical behaviour of weakly coupled lamellar clay systems and the relationship between nanoscale structural organisation and macroscopic response.

The meeting also provides an important opportunity to strengthen SCML's collaborations within the Brazilian and international clay-mineral and functional-materials communities.

ETRI 2026 — Energy Transition Research & Innovation Conference

4–6 November 2026 · São Paulo, Brazil

SCML International will participate in the ninth Energy Transition Research & Innovation Conference (ETRI 2026), organised by the Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation (RCGI-USP) in partnership with the Offshore Technology Innovation Centre (OTIC-USP).

Under the theme The Geopolitics of Energy Innovation, the conference brings together researchers, industry representatives and policymakers to discuss energy, climate, sustainability and low-carbon innovation. Its focus on decarbonisation technologies, carbon capture, new materials and international cooperation connects directly with SCML's research in functional earth-abundant materials, gas separation and sustainability.

The November Conference 2026

9–11 November 2026 · Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

SCML International will participate in the 13th November Conference, the central Norway–Brazil arena for developing research and innovation projects within energy and the energy transition.

The conference brings together researchers, industry professionals, government representatives, regulators and funding organisations from Norway and Brazil. Its programme spans topics including sustainable energy systems, carbon capture, hydrogen, advanced materials, digitalisation and emerging technologies.

For SCML International, participation is particularly relevant for strengthening its Norwegian–Brazilian research network and identifying opportunities where fundamental research in soft and complex materials can contribute to future energy and sustainability technologies.
